If you use heavy load-rated springs unladen or with less weight, the vehicle will ride higher than intended and you will get a hard, uncomfortable ride. Likewise, if you overload medium-load springs the springs will compress and the ride height will be lower and the springs will not 'spring' when overloaded so again you will get an uncomfortable ride. The odd use overloaded will not cause damage to the springs but constant use when overloaded will.
